How come everyone wants to be Italian now a days?

It seems like everyone now a days is obsessed with being Italian or the life styles of Italians why? I mean my mom was full Italian with the last name of Piraino, and my dad was fully Irish with the last name of Grover so I'm half Italian, and half Irish, but I dont consider myself the full italian lifestyle or whatever you wanna call it, so how come everyones so obsessed?
