Is it possible for coding to change on it's own?

I mainly ask this regarding a recent "legend" in the new indie hit, Minecraft. It was called Herobrine and was supposedly an NPC that basically took roles that a normal player of placing and removing blocks. Even if this was placed by the game's creator, is such a thing able to happen "naturally".
