Musicians who have performed live/at venues,or experience in getting heard.?

Hello. i am a musician, with 10 years playing piano,guitar,sax. Im nearing my 20s, I've composed quite a number of songs, melodies, and i decided to record and send them to clubs/venues. each time i record, i loose the "spark" that gives the song passion, which leads to my obsession to over-perfect it, anyway, i sent a few of my songs to clubs here in west Florida a few months ago, and im getting the impression that maybe I suck, or its the wrong kind of clubs since i haven't gotten a response, sadly the big music scene here is dance/rap, no indie/folk pointed scene... I also tried social networking but it feels "dead" to me i want to do it live..well my question is, how does one, who plays the wrong kind of music in the wrong kind of environment, get out and heard(with limited money)?
